TL;DR SEO for Marketing Leaders

*UPDATE: This series was originally named, “You Don’t Know SEO (And Neither Do I).” Fortunately, I discovered a less-ostentatious description, so I am now calling the series, “TL;DR SEO for Business Leaders.”

Testing time.

The other day, my head started buzzing with a new idea. This is one of those ideas that feels like a  I really can’t verify how well it’s going to work out, but it needs to be tested. Before I get into that, let’s start by understanding the problem.

Problem: SEO is an industry where, more than almost any other industry I can think of, is plagued with dated ideas and lingering misconceptions. These ideas linger on in the collective conscience of business professionals everywhere and plague teams with false preconceptions of how to operate. When this happens, business leaders lose by following the wrong strategies, companies lose with stagnated performance, and SEO professionals lose with missed goals.

The idea: create a series of social posts around one theme to try and debunk some of these common SEO myths, and elevate our collective conscience to a place that has at least a few less myths, and a little more clarity.

I’m calling it, the “You Don’t Know SEO (And Neither Do I)” series.

God damn, the title is so audaciously pretentious I can only hope it doesn’t sully my reputation.

The point is, I DON’T KNOW SEO EITHER.

And just when I start to think I know SEO, BOOM someone surprises me with a knowledge bomb that makes my head do the macarena.

SEO is such a deep well of information and strategy that it’s quite literally impossible to learn all of it. We learn what we can, test what we can’t, and we recalibrate.

Will this experiment work out for the best and accomplish the goal? Or, will it blow up in my face and tarnish my reputation for good?

Only time will tell, but I’m going to run this experiment anyway. 🔬
